It’s hard to believe that the christmas market season is upon us already. But I’m crazy busy getting ready for the amazings shows that bywa is participating in this year and I’m definitely getting super excited about it!

First show up is the Make it Market in Edmonton, Alberta. It’s being held on Nov 17th thru Nov 20th. Here’s a coupon for you if you are in the area:

If you are in the vancouver area than you should definitely check out the Vancouver Make It the very next weekend. Unfortunately I will only be there as a shopper this year but so many of our friends will be vendors! Like Superfly Lullabies, Kukubee, Jola V, and many, many more. The show is being held at the croation cultural centre on Nov 24th – Nov 27th. Here’s a coupon for the show:

Just print it off and bring it with you. I hope to see you there!

I’m finally ready to reveal the new bywa collection being introduced this fall. We are so thankful to Julie from Superfly Lullabies for all our great new photos. Julie, you are amazing!

The first new item in the collection we’ve already had a sneak peek at this summer. For those of you who haven’t seen her then meet our small clutch Bella:

Second is this great little hipbag, Hemingway: Hemingway can also be custom ordered as a slim sleeve for either your ipad or computer.

Next is our new everyday bag, Olivia. Perfect to carry every thing you need on a daily basis. Olivia can be worn as a shoulder bag or across the body.

Otis is a larger bag designed with a padded structure and an interior sleeve that will keep your computer secure. It will fit a 13″or 15″ nicely. (or sketchbooks, notebooks, magazines…)

And finally I thought we’d throw in something just a little bit different. This is the bywa version of the wrap belt. Don’t worry, pictures will be coming soon to show it on the body. It can be worn fitted around the waist or as a loose drop belt around your hips.

I hope you like our new line, I’d love to hear what you think! If you’d like to see more views of any particular bag they will be available online soon at www.cargoh.com/store/bywa-bag-designs

Here’s a little peak at our new summer clutch, Bella. It’s the perfect size for that night out; phone, keys, lipstick… you know, the essentials. The versatility of the adustable strap allows you to tuck it away for those formal occasions, or wear it across the body or over the shoulder for every day use.

Our clutch features a slot pocket perfect to keep small cards in check. But for the times when a wallet is still desired our ‘Charlie’ wallet conveniently fits like a glove. Similar to our wallets, the Bella incorporates our green friendly lining created by fusing together 16 layers of plastic bags.

Let us know what you think. We love to hear your feedback!

One of the things that I want bywa to be about is promoting the empowerment of women around the world. So when I heard about this trip to Jordan that a small group of incredibly creative people I know were planning I got super excited. I love what they are going there to do so I thought I’d share it with all of you.

It’s called “Jordan:bringing the stories home”. It’s a documentary project featuring stories of women in the middle east and this is their philosophy behind the power of story.

“The wisdom of stories is that they capture our hearts and our imagination; they connect us to our common humanity and provoke us to action. Stories have the power to make allies out of perceived enemies to build bridges of genuine understanding, compassion and trust.”

I love this. I’m so excited to see and hear what this project produces and I am looking forward to partnering with them in their efforts. I just wish I was going with them. Well maybe next time. If you’d like to read more about this project go to www.jordan2011.ca

I’ve been thinking about the people I’m thankful for; the people that have had such a huge influence on the dreams and passions that I hold dear. It’s always been a passion of mine to be a faithful steward to the world we live in and the people in it. As far back as I can remember conserving and living responsibly has been a part of my life. In fact, my parents were probably the ones who influenced me the most in this area. Back before “green” was a hip way to live they were the hippiest non-hippies around. I’ll always be thankful to my parents for teaching me that everything has value and most things that are thrown away aren’t really garbage.

The day my older sister was due to be born my mom was busy canning peaches that some trucker had dumped in the forest on their farm. One year we got our Christmas tree from the local dump because someone had just dumped a load of trees they couldn’t sell. Come to think of it, the dishwasher we used for years and years came from that same dump. My dad cleaned it all up and it was as good as new…well almost new. My parents were always looking for new ways to conserve energy, to grow organically, to reuse what we already had. They lived this way not because it was cool or trendy but because it was the right thing to do. I love them both and will forever be thankful for the amazing examples they have been.

So here’s to you, mom and dad! Thanks, and I can’t wait for all the great veggies from this year’s garden.

So here is a sneak peak at our two new styles for 2011. We have one new bag and one new wallet. Let us know what you think!

First up we have an extra large hobo bag that’s big enough to carry the kitchen sink but with this bag you’ll do it with class. This bag can be worn as a shoulder bag or across the body.

Next, we have our new wallet. It’s a large wallet with 12 card slots and a large zipper pouch for change. Like our smaller wallet style, Charlie, the stability is made from 16 layers of grocery bags that have been fused together to form a hard vinyl and then sew in between the leather.

I love to thrift. I’m not the best mall shopper. In fact, I usually last about 20 min tops in a mall before I start going a bit wiggy. But thrifting I can do for hours. I love sorting through all the old out of date leather coats, pants, and skirts and envisioning what they could become. I love sorting through the reams and reams of fabrics and curtains and sheets that have lost interest for others knowing that they’ll be some pretty kickass linings that will match up beautifully with that old vintage button I came across in that big bucket of buttons I just picked up.

This past holiday however, it was time to do some much needed shopping not for supplies for my bags but for myself. It was so fun to hunt through racks and racks of clothing to find a hidden treasure just my size. The fact that everything was 50% off that day was an added bonus! So I came home with some great tops and an old leather trench that I’m going to shorten for my own use and a very swell pair of jeans. The next morning I was looking through what I’d purchased and discovered an added bonus. The pair of jeans I bought for $4 where actually an organic cotton jean from Loomstate. Needless to say I was very excited. Not only were they 2nd hand, they were even made in a sustainable way to begin with! I was definitely a bit stoked. Nothing beats that kind of deal. No killer mall deal could come close. So here is my hat’s off to thrifting!
